Today, the Africastatus.com team wishes to inform and notify members of the general public, especially all candidates who wish to study in the NOUN postgraduates schools, that they can now register using the guidelines below.
We would love to officially welcome all interested persons and aspirants that they can are welcome to the School of Postgraduate Studies of the National Open University of Nigeria, (NOUN). For candidates who are not aware, NOUN is the only Nigerian University (tertiary institution) that is authorized for Distance Learning in Nigeria.
Before going ahead to list out the information you need here, I would love to thank you for choosing NOUN as your choice institution to pursue your postgraduate studies which will have a profound influence on your future.
Welcome To the National Open University of Nigeria – NOUN School of Postgraduate Studies
Just in case you don’t know, the National Open University of Nigeria has from the inception of its academic programmes in 2003, begun her postgraduate studies in each of its five schools, which is in particular, at the postgraduate Diploma level.

But you should take note here, that the Senate and authorities of NOUN officially formalised the establishment of a School of Postgraduate Studies at its 46th Regular Meeting, which was held on the 6th of April, 2009.
Please take note that the National Open University of Nigeria Postgraduate programmes (PG) can either be run Full-time (particularly for research-based PhD and Masters Degrees) OR you can choose to do the flexible time bases.
However, you should note that the NOUN PG programmes are specifically designed to increase the Wisdom of her students and help them to develop new skills, update their professional skills as well as add value to their organisation and business.
So, therefore, you should probably know that most of NOUN programmes, particularly at the Postgraduate Diploma and Masters level, are by Coursework and Research underpinned by the principles of Open and Distance Learning.
Admission Requirements into Noun Postgraduate School
I know you’re ready and fully prepared for the NOUN PG programme, right? Well, here are the detailed requirements for admission into the NOUN PG school.
Please take note that for you to be eligible and qualify for admission into any of the postgraduate programmes of the University, it is required for a candidate to meet all the required matriculation requirements of at least five (5) credit passes, which must include:
- English Language,
- Mathematics.
Nonetheless, be informed that some of the Noun pg programmes accept at least a pass in Mathematics.
b: For aspirants and candidates seeking the Postgraduate Diploma Programmes, the school senate made it mandatory that all candidates must possess either a minimum bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a highly recognised tertiary institution by the NOUN Authorities OR a Higher National Diploma with a minimum of Lower Credit.
Please also take note that for the Postgraduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting, each applying candidate must have been called to the Bar.
It is very important for candidates to note here, that for admission into the school of Business and Human Resource Management Postgraduate Diploma programmes, all applying candidates with professional qualifications such as ACA, ACIS, ACIB, ACII, ACIA, etc may be considered on individual merit. This is very important.
c: While for aspirants and interested candidates seeking admission to study for Master’s degree programmes, the NOU school senate discloses that all applying candidates must possess either a bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of second class lower in the relevant field of study from a University which must be recognised by the NOUN Management Board.
Although, holders of lower classification and candidates who have a minimum of 2 years of relevant post-qualification experience may be considered for admission into their desired programme, strictly on individual merit OR:
A Postgraduate Diploma in a related field of study from a recognised University.
OR
A Higher National Diploma with a minimum of Upper Credit in the relevant field of study.
Please take note that all interested candidates with membership certificates of relevant professional bodies may apply for the Master of Business (MBA) programme.
d: While for candidates seeking admission to the Doctor of Philosophy Degree programs, the school senate made it mandatory that all candidates must possess a master’s degree in the relevant field of study from a recognized University by the Senate board of the NOUN with a minimum score average of not less than 60% or a cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 on a 5-point scale.
