One of Nigeria’s most popular Islamic clerics, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, who is very popular because of his opinions on bandits and the solution he’s offering the federal government, has shared his thoughts on the recent killings of Miss Deborah Samuel.

His reaction to the action taken by Shehu Shagari College of Education students in Sokoto state has shocked Nigerians, both Muslims and Christians alike, because almost everyone was expecting something different from the cleric.

Sheik Gumi actually condemned the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, the 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto state.

Deborah, a student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, in Sokoto, was murdered by an irate mob last week for allegedly blaspheming against the prophet.

During his sermon in Kaduna state where the sheikh is based, the popular Islamic cleric reminded extremist Muslims that the prophet of Islam, Muhammad, did not at any time during his lifetime, asked, or told any of his followers to kill anyone, despite the fact that he was insulted on numerous occasions.

The cleric went further to explain that the prophet’s refusal to avenge the insults non-Muslims rained on him while he was alive, was because he did not want to be tagged a murderer.

Sheikh Gumi said and I quote below:

Anyone who kills a non-Muslim who they have agreed to live peacefully with, will not smell the fragrance of Paradise for 40 years. If we think by killing Deborah, people who are not of the same faith as us will stop insulting our prophet, then we are in delusion”.
